BHE works to provide orphaned and vulnerable children with the holistic care they deserve.
Maya is one of the children in our program. She lost her father due to a car accident at an early age. Maya's mom worked as a daily laborer and was unable to support her daughter and herself with little income.
After joining our program, Maya receives nutritional, educational, health and counseling support. "Now I feel like I have a big family and many close friends" expressed Maya cheerfully. Maya is now a 4th grade student and dreams of becoming an Astronomer.
Keeping students educated amidst COVID-19
We are working on providing students with tutorials as schools prepare to reopen with COVID-19 protections. Currently we tutor 8th & 12th grade students in our program to help them prepare for their national exams.
As students enter our compound they are provided with sanitizers, they are also able to wash their hands at our distanced water taps. The kids hang their bags separately to keep the environment sanitized before entering our study rooms.
Youth in our program like Tigist volunteer to support and mentor younger students. Tigist who lost her parents at an early age is now on her final year studying Construction Management Engineering. She is a shining example to the younger children in our program.
