Happy International Women's Day!
Today we celebrate the young women in our program who have transformed their lives through education and earned their degree from higher education!
At BHE, we believe education and holistic support can empower young women's lives. We are extremely proud of four young women graduates in our program; Temina, Asnaku, Bogalech and Abiba.
They achieved success despite having lost both their parents as young girls and being at risk of dropping out of school due to economic hardship. Read more below.
Celebrating our Women Graduates!
Temina was our first graduate from University three years after the BHE program had started. Temina and her brother had a difficult childhood losing their parents at a young age and facing challenges at home.
Temina joined BHE in her last year of high school. BHE provided her holistic care and support to overcome her challenges and continue her education.
Temina successfully graduated with a B.A. Degree in Accounting. She is now a self reliant happy young woman who has come far and achieved much.
Asnaku lost her mom when she was a small girl and her father soon after. She lived with her step mother who cared for her with her own family. After joining BHE they received support so Asnaku can continue her education. Despite challenges, she was able to enroll in an extension program and graduate from university earning her degree in Accounting.
Bogalech lost her parents at a young age and her aunt took care of her while working as a daily laborer. After joining BHE, they received support and Bogalech was able to continue her studies. She completed her degree studies in Accounting and Finance from a private university this year. Bogalech is now employed and working in her field.
Abiba lost both her parents at the age of five, she and her sister lived with her grandmother. Life was difficult for them but after joining BHE they received holistic support. Abiba was able to continue her education and she earned good results. Her grandmother also received a loan for income generation through her small business. Abiba passed her high school exams and joined university. She completed her degree in Nutrition and Food Science. Abiba now takes care of her grandmother and supports her younger sister.
Mihret also lost her parents at an early age. Her guardians struggled to make ends meet and she was at risk of being unable to get an education. After joining BHE, Mihret and her guardian received holistic care and continued her education. Her guardian also received support for her small business. Mihret is now a responsible and dedicated young woman who has earned her Diploma in Accounting.
