This month, we were overwhelmed with joy as Lemma passed his 12th grade national exams with outstanding grades, passing towards his university education. It is an absolute honor for all of us at Brave Hearts to see Lemma thriving, despite the tremendous challenges he has faced.
Lemma is a young man who had a tough journey as a child living with cerebral palsy and being physically impaired. Lemma had been in an orphanage where he lacked appropriate care. After joining BHE in 2014 he received holistic care including education, health and counseling support.
Later on, BHE also helped him reunite with his father after being separated for several years. His father was happy to once again be able to care for Lemma and his special needs. His sisters were also able to spend time with him. Lemma was able to be with his family once more.
Seeing his motivation and bright potential BHE continued to support him in attending School of Tomorrow, a private school where he received quality education. Despite his challenges Lemma always had a bright smile and big heart. He is friendly and had close friendships with the other children and youth at BHE.
In 2018 Lemma won second place representing his school with a fellow student. BHE supported him in earning a scholarship at the school to finish his last two years of high school. Lemma also received counseling and psychosocial support where he was able to overcome his past trauma. BHE also supported him in reuniting with his father and siblings so he has his family and the loving home he deserves.
As our social workers visited at home after his 12th grade national exam, Lemma was in good spirits. He felt confident about his performance. His father was cooking a lovely meal for him.
His graduation ceremony was held on 17 April 2021 and was a day filled with joy. Lemma's dad, BHE children and staff joined in his send off and celebration as he had a brilliant smile in his suit and graduation gown.
He is a shining example for the other children in our program that they can succeed with hard work despite the challenges they face.
Lemma will now go on to his university studies. Lemma has a passion for IT and music, he aspires to become a Computer Engineer.

All of us at Brave Hearts Ethiopia are immensely proud of his perseverance and success.
We would like to thank our volunteers, sponsors, and donors, your gift has made it possible for students like Lemma to continue to receive holistic care and quality education that will break down the barriers of poverty and unlock opportunities. We also thank School of Tomorrow for awarding Lemma a merit based scholarship for 2 years. We can’t wait to see what his bright future holds!
